Operation Christmas Cookie commencing 0900 hours 22Dec2010

Operation Christmas Cookie will be a non-covert op that we hope the entire base community will participate in and will soon spread Christmas cheer far and wide.  Volunteers will be collecting cookies at the commissary at 9am to wrap and distribute the cookies to the Airmen on base who will not be able to return home to spend the holidays with their families.  Let's make Operation Christmas Cookie a successful mission and bring the Christmas spirit to the heart of each Airman who isn't going home this year.

One year, I spent deployed on a deserted island and in a Christmas box from my Mom, was the best gift I ever got.  It was filled with a silly amount of Mac & Cheese,  and a little kit of sugar cookies that she had baked and powdered sugar, and food coloring.  I cried when I opened that package.  You forget how much you miss the small things that other people take for granted.  I had even been doing things that most people might envy a moment before, like snorkeling a coral reef, but I was so homesick and happy for 15 small cookies that nothing was more prized.  So you can see how much these small Christmas cookies can mean to someone who can not return home.  I shared my cookies with friends over Mac&Cheese Christmas Dinner while we watches AFRTS television specials and made fun of the commercials that our friends were on.  That Christmas, the "Operation Christmas Cookie", were mission accomplished!

We have been offered the use of a freezer if you aren't able to drop them off at the commissary on Wednesday, so don't be discouraged by lack of time management.  Please contact us if you would like to participate, because we would love to be able to make this mission a success.  Here are some links to ideas for both creative and classic Christmas Cookies.  We are looking for all kinds, Gingerbread, Linzer, Shortcake, Pinwheels, all the classic cookies that you would see your Grandma/Abuelita/Nona/Nana make.
